Hurricane Creek Camp
urricane Creek Camp offers a great spot at 7,000 feet elevation in a high alpine meadow below steep granite Wallowa Mountain peaks that soar to nearly ten thousand feet. The high walls and ridges on each side of the meadow form the Hurwal and Hurricane Divides in Oregon's largest wilderness area, the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
From the camp, our wrangler will lead you on a ride only a half day into The Lakes Basin, an area dotted with crystal clear alpine tarns such Douglas, Moccasin, Craig, Horseshoe, and Sunshine lakes. The more intrepid can follow the foot trail to the summit of Eagle Cap in the very heart of the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area. The spectacular view from the top looks down into five watersheds, including the Minam River, a national treasure.
The Backcountry cook will prepare hearty fare for the big Western appetite you'll have from breathing all that fresh mountain air. At night you can cozy up inside walled tents with cots and a wood stove. Latrines and camp showers are also provided.
